Jason Kidd has been selected to become the Brooklyn Nets head coach. Kidd beat out Indiana Pacers assistant, Brian Shaw, and will make the unprecedented jump from player to coach.

Kidd is second all-time in the NBA in assists, second all-time in steals, and third all-time in 3 point field goals made. It is impossible to predict if his playing career will be as successful as his coaching career, however Kidd did learn from some of the best. He learned from Lawrence Frank, the then coach of the New Jersey Nets as well as Rick Carlisle who coached Kidd to his first and only NBA title while with the Dallas Mavericks. Kidd studied how coach Mike Woodson of the New York Knicks handled the media as well as picking up some tendencies that will help Kidd be the best coach he can.

As true New Yorkers know, words don’t describe how much Kidd has meant to the Nets over the past 10 years, and it is nice to see that the Nets understand that as well.
