Brooklyn Nets Making Moves

ByVernon McKenzie

The Brooklyn Nets have made quite a push to contend for a championship this season. The Hawks came to an agreement to trade their overpaid superstar Joe Johnson to the Nets.

Atlanta will receive guards Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar and DeShawn Stevenson and forwards Jordan Williams and Johan Petro, along with a draft pick Brooklyn received from Houston in a prior deal, in exchange for an aging veteran with a 90 million dollar contract. Despite the cost, there is no doubt Joe Johnson can play.

Johnson won’t be alone in Brooklyn.  After days of suspense, All-Star Deron Williams has decided to return to the Nets. He’s expected to make 98 million dollars over 5 years.

The landscape of basketball in NYC has changed before the ball has hit the wood. With Landry Fields signing with the Raptors, Lin talking to the Rockets and the rumored Iman Shumpert trades, the Nets may just have the better team…way better than the sitcom we call the Melo and Amare show.

Things can get even better for Brooklyn. Despite the idea of Dwight Howard not being able to come to the Nets due to lack of cap space, it is not 100% improbable. Dwight does seem to get what he wants anyway.

Even if the trade doesn’t happen, the Nets can still contend. A healthy Brook Lopez, Kris” Kardashian” Humpries, Gerald Wallace, Joe Johnson and Deron Williams will be able to put in enough wins to at least – dare I say? – make the playoffs.
If the Knicks could do it last year in that mess, the Nets can do it – especially in the Eastern Conference.
