New York:  After 30 years of service to the NBA, Commissioner David Stern is stepping down from his position. The move will not take place until February 1, 2014. Succeeding Commissioner Stern will be Acting Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver. The Board of Governors are expecting to meet with Adam Silver over the next few months to officially confirm the transition.

During the press conference held today in New York, Commissioner Stern endorsed the move to Adam Silver. Commissioner Stern said he has worked with Adam over the last twenty years and believes he is the best man for the job.  Commissioner Stern also mentioned that the timing of the move gives him and Adam the time needed to slowly transition all of the business of the NBA over to Adam Silver.

David Stern – along with the star power of Ervin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird – revitalized the NBA in the early eighties.  This partnership changed the perception of the league from the rough-and-rugged play of the 1970’s when players were known more for fighting and doing drugs than playing basketball.

For a job well done with class and professionalism, Commissioner Stern will be missed.
