The Rangers scored 3 power-play goals to come back and beat the Lightning 4-3.
The Rangers got on the board first with Rick Nash getting a great pass from Derek Stepan. J.T. Miller would then go in the box for tripping Martin St. Louis and the Lightning would get the goal back from Tyler Johnson after a gorgeous passing play. Later in the first, a key faceoff win would allow Ondrej Palet to collect a rebound and fire a shot above Henrik Lundqvist’s glove to double Tampa’s lead. With 1:35 left in the first Mats Zuccarello would get his 9th goal of the season on the power play after he sent a puck in front that deflected in off a skate.
The Blueshirts would get their second PP goal of the game with Chris Kreider scoring his team leading 10th goal of the season on a nifty backhand after beating Viktor Hedman to the net to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead early in the second. Just a couple of minutes later, the Rangers were back on the power play and finished 3 for 3 with a great passing play that saw Benoit Pouliot tapping in a goal to double New York’s lead.
Valtteri Filppula cut the Rangers lead to just one after a beautiful deflection that zipped by Lundqvist’s right shoulder. Teddy Purcell added the primary assist on the play. After a couple of close calls the Rangers were able to hold off the Lightning and escape with a victory.
