She may not have won the WNBA regular season MVP award but Maya Moore is making a strong case for the WNBA Finals MVP award should the Minnesota Lynx defeat the Indiana Fever in game 4 of the finals on Sunday.

This is the second time that the teams have met in the WNBA finals. In 2012 the Fever defeated the Lynx to win there first and only WNBA title. In 2012 just like this year’s series, the teams came into game 3 each with one victory and just like 2012, Friday’s game 3 turned out to be a pivotal game in the series.

Maya began the game slowly, picking up early fouls and not really getting into the flow of the game. She played just 22 minutes tallying 24 points but would save her best moment for last. Her teammates held down the fort in what turned out to be one of the most exciting WNBA finals games in recent history. Seimone Augustus chipped in with 13 points while Sylvia Fowles added 11 points and 11 rebounds. It was a back and forth game; both teams seemed to be tuned in on the offensive end.

The Fever were led by Shenise Johnson who finished the game with 17 points, going 7-11 from the floor. Tamika Catchings had a night to forget, scoring just 10 points and shooting 3-10 overall. She did impact the game in other ways; she grabbed 10 rebounds and had 3 steals. With 2:48 left in the 4th quarter Tamika missed an easy fast break layup that would have given the Fever some momentum, which sums up the type of night she was having.

In the 4th quarter Maya showed why she was a superstar. She scored 12 big points and broke the hearts of the fans at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. With the game tied at 77 a piece and 1.7 seconds left on the clock Lindsay Whalen inbounded the ball to Moore  behind the arc at the top of the key, she pumped faked her defender, dribbled once to her right, set her feet and rose up to hit the game winning 3 silencing the crowd.

Moore forever solidified herself as one of the greatest ever with that shot. She was destined to be in that moment. Ironically wearing the number 23 and hitting a game winning shot that will forever be immortalized.

The Lynx now lead the series 2-1 and looked to close out on Sunday in Indiana to capture their 3rd WNBA title.

"Basketball is my favorite sport, I like the way they dribble up and down the court." "I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller." "Last week messed around and got a triple double." I write about basketball sometimes and then I try to go play....
