Queens NY May 27, 2015: Three days ago the Mets were swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates and looked like a fraction of the team that won 11 straight games in the beginning of the season. It finally seemed like all the injuries they have endured this season had caught up with them and they were heading in the wrong direction. With the recent news of the Captain David Wright suffering from spinal stenosis and setting him back yet again the Mets seemed to not catch any breaks over Memorial Day weekend. But after taking the first 2 games of the series one on a 10th inning walk off the Mets looked to sweep the Phillies and keep track with perhaps the hottest team in MLB the Washington Nationals. The Mets sent rookie Phenome Noah “THOR” Syndergaard to lay down the hammer and shut down Philly.

Syndergaard did not disappoint one bit his stat line was in fact historic yet again. Although he went (1-2) in his first three starts of the season all of his starts have been quality starts keeping the Mets anemic bats in the game until the late innings. It has been the sixth inning where Syndergaard has struggled where he has a 19.96 ERA in the sixth inning. But Wednesday proved that the sixth inning would not be a struggle for him in this game as he pitched 7.1 innings of shutout baseball to quiet the Phillies bats. The Mets helped Noah out early when Lucas Duda hit a solo shot off pitcher Sean O’Sullivan in the first inning. Michael Cuddyer continued the onslaught when he launched a 2 run HR in the 3rd inning to make it 3-0 Mets. Syndergaard showed his power at the plate in the 4th inning launching a solo HR that traveled well over 400 ft bringing the fans to their feet. Duda hit the fourth and last home run of the night a 3 run bomb that made it 7-0 Mets and was the final score of the game.

The Mets seemed to have gotten out of a slump that lasted two weeks after sweeping the Phillies bringing them to (27-21). Duda, Cuddyer and Murphy batted .500 during the series which was a good sign for the Mets. Duda was able to bring his batting average over .300 for the season and Cuddyer has raised his average 30 points to .262 but it was Noah Syndergaard who stole the show on both sides of the field. Not only did he demonstrate his power with his pitching but also with his bat. His dominating pitching performance was able to bring his record to (2-2) and lower his ERA to 2.55 with 22 SO in 24 2/3 innings of work. But it was his bat that everyone was raving about going 3-3 with a HR in the 4th inning that stat cast estimated its travel at 427 ft to straight away center. With his hitting performance Noah became the second Mets pitcher with a 3 hit game matching his teammate Jacob DeGrom. Mets look to continue their “contagious” hitting against the Miami Marlins on Friday as Harvey is scheduled to pitch against Haren on Harvey day with some fans in attendance sitting in the batcave.
