Antrel Rolle has made it quite clear that he wants to stay with the Giants, but will the Giant’s re-sign him? Should they?

The 3 time pro-bowl safety was selected 8th overall in the 2005 draft by the Arizona Cardinals and then signed by the Giants prior to the 2010 season. Since then Rolle has spent the past 5 seasons as a New York Giant and he has made it known that this is where he’d like to finish his career.

The safety out of Miami has provided solid play at the safety position and has been a leader for this team and a locker room guy that any coach would want. At 32 years old though, many are questioning if it is worth the investment going forward. Should the Giants take the risk and sign him or go younger at the position. Money speaks, but I’d sign the guy.

Age Is Just A Number

Antrel Rolle is the closest thing to the Terminator when it comes to the NFL. The man has played in all 16 games since 2006. He takes care of his body and he prepares himself better than many athletes today. Yes his athleticism may diminish a little, but Rolle’s skill set doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon.

And let’s face it, the Giants need guys like Rolle that stay healthy when the rest of the team is having a problem keeping themselves on the field.

Are the Giants going to have another season like last year with injuries? Lets hope not, but with all 20+ players that were placed on IR in 2014 the 32 year old was the one playing on Sunday. Health wise he has always been worth the money, unlike so many other younger players who aren’t.

Other Options?

Can anyone else throw a younger name out there that can be as good as Rolle or better right now. At least at a better price I can’t. If the Giants try to draft one, they may be picking the wrong draft class because this isn’t the strongest draft class in the last ten years to say the least. Unless they plan on drafting a Landon Collins in the first round, which I just can’t see, Rolle is probably the best bet.

Love for Big Blue

If you have a guy who has played for you for a long time and wants to play for YOUR team that’s someone I want on my team. He loves the Giants, he loves New York and this is where he wants to be. He conducts himself in a leadership manner and his character is something Tom Coughlin and any coach can admire. If your heart is in to something you are going to produce positive results and that is what he has been doing for the past five years for the Giants.

Final Thoughts

Rolle is a player that I would absolutely do everything I can to retain. He is a high character player who doesn’t let his age show and is as close to indestructible as there comes (knock on wood). Teams searching for a safety might bid high for him in which case I wouldn’t be able to fault the Giants, but you can be sure New York is going to try their best to make something work.
