The New York Jets were ranked 24th on defense for total points allowed per game and last in turnover with 13. After watching enough games, one can definitely put most of the blame on the secondary for those poor stats.

The Jets secondary was definitely the biggest concern headed into the offseason right up there with quarterback. With the league basically forcing the Jets to spend this year in free agency unlike they have the past few seasons, New York finally made moves.

The Jets made of with the biggest moves of the offseason, stealing CB Darrelle Revis from the New England Patriots. The blockbuster deal came five hours after Revis became a free agent. The Patriots declined to exercise a $20 million option for 2015, but they had retained exclusive negotiating rights until 4 p.m. ET. After eventually declining his option, New York jumped in a signed the All-Pro corner around 8pm Tuesday night to a 5 year, $70 million deal. The Jets deal with Revis includes $39 million guarunteed and will pay him $48 million over the first three years.

It was a big move for the Jets and shook up the Patriots after many believed he was just finding a home there. Revis proved he is still arguably the best corner in the game after being a big part of New England’s latest Super Bowl victory. He will become a huge staple in Jets new head coach, Todd Bowles, system which relies on corners to play on their own island.

With the Jets already owning one of the best defensive lines in the league adding revise in the secondary only makes them much more dangerous in what is growing to be a defensive dominant division.

Jets Ink CB Skrine

Before Revis returned to New York, the Jets also signed rising corner Buster Skrine formerly of the Cleveland Browns. Skrine, a two-year starter for the Browns, will receive a four-year, $25 million contract, including $13 million in guarantees. Skrine (25) is still young and has shown encouraging signs of progress each season. Although not he isn’t a number 1 cornerback, he should continue to improve under the leadership of newly acquired Darrelle Revis.
