The New York Giants have agreed to a deal with former New England Patriot running back, Shane Vereen. The deal was reported early Tuesday by NFL Network.

After spending the past four seasons with the Patriots, Vereen(26) maximized his market by playing every game last season and totaling 11 receptions in the Super Bowl.

The Giants have been showing the most interest in Vereen in looking for a change of pace running back to Reshad Jennings and Andre Williams. New York was ranked 23rd in rushing yards last season under first-year coordinator, Ben McAdoo. However, the 2011 New England Patriots second round pick should not be expected to be a big time ball carrier. He is versatile back that will most likely continue to be used as a pass catcher in New York.

Vereen is known for running precise routes and has gained his quarterback’s trust with his hands. He had 391 rushing yards,447 receiving yards and five total touchdowns last season and played just over 50% of the Patriot’s snaps, more than any other New England back.  He is also ready and willing to pick up the blitz, which is a good fit considering the Giants offensive line woes.
