Nets Suffer Crushing Loss in New Orleans

The Nets look to win back-to-back games as they take on the Pelicans on the road.

With two early turnovers, Nets coach Kenny Atkinson would take a time out as the Pelicans take an 8-0 lead early in the 1st quarter; but with early blocks by Jarrett Allen the Nets regain their composure. Caris LeVert’s aggression inside causes him to get to the rim, while Hollis-Jefferson protects the ball and knocks down shots getting the Nets within 2 (32-30) to close the 1st.

With 2 quick treys and shots inside, the Nets go on a 10-2 run to start the 2nd quarter. The pace continues as the Nets’ offense heats up with Russell going 3 for 3 from three-point territory; the Nets take a 12-point lead in the middle of the 2nd quarter. As they shoot 51% from the field, and 52.6% from behind the arc, the Nets close out the first half up 66-57. D’Angelo Russell scores 18 in the first half.

Russell knocks down a 3 to start the 2nd half, however the Nets go through offensive struggles in the beginning of the 3rd quarter as their lead diminishes. Caris LeVert, just 4-15 from the field finally knocks down his first trey of the night as the Nets fight to hold on to their lead in the middle of the 3rd. The Pelicans make a comeback late in the 3rd quarter, but Spencer Dinwiddie drains a 3 and beats the buzzer to close out the quarter, putting the Nets up 3.

Shabazz Napier comes out with quick jumpers to give the Nets a 5 point lead to start the 4th quarter, but the Pelicans continue to fight to close the gap on the Nets lead. D’Angelo Russell continues to knock down 3’s as he leads the Nets with 24 points in the 4th..

Caris LeVert comes alive offensively late in the 4th as he knocks down a floater to give the Nets a 7 point lead with 2 minutes left on the clock. As the Pelicans capitalize on Brooklyn’s late game blunders they cut the Nets lead to 3.

As Dudley fouls Holiday with 23.7 seconds on the clock, Holiday drains both foul shots, but as the Nets play “keep away” with the ball up 116-115, D’Angelo Russell throws the ball away, as a late game turn over costs the Nets the win in New Orleans.

Russell scores a game high 24 points and LeVert finishes with 21 points, 6 boards, and 4 dimes.
