Milliner Out, Decker Limited in Practice

Eric Decker is still bothered by his ailing hamstring, as he only participated in non contact drills in practice today. The Jets top cornerback Dee Milliner was only on the bike and has not practiced all week. All signs are pointing to him being ruled out on Sunday to play the Lions. David Nelson missed two days of practice this week (illness) but returned to practice today, which is much needed considering Decker is not 100%.

Chris Johnson talked on Thursday in practice about how he wanted to get more carries in the offense. He has split time with Chris Ivory, and third down back Bilal Powell. On the year, Chris Johnson has 35 carries for 123 yards with no TD’s. Ivory has two less touches at 33 carries for 190 yards but with 2 TD’s. Johnson said his productivity would increase if the workload increased. Sunday we could see the Jets looking to get him more involved, and possibly get him his first touchdown on the year.

Antonio Allen the converted safety to cornerback will stay at the cornerback role this year. Allen has filled in for the injured Milliner for the first three games and has done a pretty good job at doing so. He alongside Darren Walls will face their next tough task coming off of their Alshon Jeffery, Brandon Marshall assignment. Sunday they have Calvin “Megatron” Johnson, and Golden Tate who won a SuperBowl with the Seahawks last season.

Johnson has had a great start to 2014, with 19 catches for 329 yards and 2 TD’s. Tate has 16 receptions for 201 yards and no TD’s. Matthew Stafford struggled last game by throwing two INT’s and losing a fumble, although they still won the game. Look for him to get back on track against the Jets, pending he has his wide receiver Johnson suited up. Johnson missed all week of practice with an ankle injury, but returned Friday.

Considering the struggles of second year quarterback Geno Smith, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, voiced about the possibility of simplifying the offense. This could prove to be a huge difference, and help Smith with his decision making and reads. All signs also point to NO for the call for Michael Vick to take over duties. Rex Ryan and Mornhinweg are fully invested in Smith. So get used to seeing Smith out there for a while Jet fans.
