Kuroda leaves early with injury, O’s down Yanks 6-3

Hiroki Kuroda got hit hard early, including taking a line drive off the calf that forced him to leave the game, as the Orioles used a trio of home runs to win the rubber match against the Yankees.

Kuroda was already on his way to having his worst outing of the season before a Manny Machado liner smacked off Kuroda’s calf in the second inning. Markakis gave up two first inning home runs to the O’s as both Nick Markakis and Chris Davis took him deep on their way to a 3-0 first inning lead.

A Robinson Cano single brought the Yankees to 3-1 before the hobbled Kuroda tried to come out for the third inning. After giving up a double and single to start the inning the Yankees took Kuroda out of the game with the injury. Reliever Pete Claiborne promptly gave up a three-run homer to Matt Wieters that gave the O’s a 6-1 advantage they would not relinquish.

Curtis Granderson added a solo home run, his first of the year, while David Adams went yard in the 9th to bring the Yankees within 6-3 before they were finished off by Darren O’Day.

Manager Joe Girardi did say after the game that he believes Kuroda will be able to make his next start. The Yankees now travel to Tampa will they will face the Rays in a three game weekend set.
