Knicks vs Raptors

ByVernon McKenzie

NY Knicks:  The Knicks returned to Madison Square Garden after a three game West Coast swing.  It was not a good road trip as the Knicks lost two out of three, finally getting a win against the Sacramento Kings on New Year’s Eve.  Amar’e Stoudemire didn’t play due to a sprained right ankle; his status is day to day. Hopefully the Knicks can keep the winning streak alive with a win against the Toronto Raptors.  A sluggish beginning for the Knicks, as no one but Anthony came to play.  Toronto was up to the task, knocking shots, pushing the lead to 14 early in the third quarter. Finally the Knicks woke up after Tony Douglas knocked down a three and was fouled on the play for the first four-point play of the seaseon, cutting the lead to three with 3:29 left in the 3rd quarter.  But the Raptors would come out in the fourth and make things really difficult for the Knicks.  Pushing the lead back to nine, never relishing the lead, Carmelo Anthony did his best, scoring 35 points, to cut deficit-making big shots down the stretch. The Knicks truly missed Amar’e Stoudemire’s presence – the bench just wasn’t deep enough.  The Raptors made all the key plays in the final minutes – holding off the Knicks’ winning 90-85.
