April 5, 2015 Queens, NY  The Knicks have six games left in the lose-win race.  You ask what is “lose-win”?  It’s when losing games improves your draft position.  It’s when there is an incentive to lose.  It’s when losing is preferable to winning.  Tonight, the Knicks have their hands full as they play another team that has a similar aspiration–the hapless Philadelphia 76ers who have the dubious distinction of sitting front and center during every recent ping-pong ceremony.  The Knicks will be hardpressed to lose to a team that has a 6-33 road record.  Tickets are still available, and the game will be shown locally on the Madison Square Garden Network.

Philadelphia lost to the Charlotte Bobcats last night, 92-91, and the Knicks lost to the Washington Wizards on Friday, 101-87.  Both teams have a penchant for losing and a history of ineptitude.  The 76ers last won an NBA title beating the Los Angeles Lakers in four straight back in 1983.  For those of us who are baby-boomers, that’s not so long ago.  However, if we do the math, 1983 was 32 years ago.  Reagan, not Obama, was president.  Let’s get to the Knicks.  The last time they won, Clyde was a long way from 70 (Walt “Clyde” Frazier turned 70 two Fridays ago).  In fact, Clyde was 28.  The 76ers haven’t won in 32 years, and the Knicks haven’t won in 42 years.

The Knicks have an owner who is not afraid to spend money, a great fan base, and play in arguably the greatest city on earth (from a sports perspective).  Should Knicks fans have to wait 50 years?  If losing a few more games gets them a Tim Ducanesque type of player, than let’s root against the Knicks.  Let’s hope they lose tonight.  Curse every basket they make.  Hiss at every rebound they snatch.  Scowl every time they dive and get a loose ball.  Let the losing continue.  Let the Knicks be the Have Less and the Have Nots so they (Knicks) can eventually become the Have More and the Haves.
