Jets romped by the Bengals; Geno takes 2 steps back

The New York Jets failed to show up yesterday in Cincinnati. Yes, the Bengals are a good team making the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, but to lose to them by a final score of 49-9 is flat out embarrassing. Just as everything seemed to be going in the Jets direction, especially after last weeks OT win against the New England Patriots, the Jets had a huge let down where it seemed as if anything that could go wrong did.

Geno Smith threw not one but two Pick-6’s. Matt Simms, who was not even on the Jets roster until the 4th preseason game, replaced Smith in the 4th quarter. This is not to speculate a QB change, as rookie quarterbacks certainly have their ups and downs, however this was a major step back for Geno Smith.

The Jets defense did not hail any better, letting little known WR Marvin Jones set the Bengals franchise record with 4 receiving touchdowns. 1st round pick, Dee Milliner was benched for the second time this season after allowing 1 touchdown and 108 receiving yards on 4 receptions. Darelle Revis could have played better with one knee.

The Jets do not get a break, as they face the highflying New Orleans Saints offense next week at MetLife Stadium. If they could not stop the Bengals from putting up record numbers, the Jets could be in for another miserable day come next Sunday. Rex Ryan has proven time and time again that when everyone seems to doubt the Jets, they put forth their best performance. They surely need to this week, or else their playoff hopes will start to become out of reach.
