Lambeau field played host to the New York Jets last Sunday. The Packers were coming off an embarrassing loss in Seattle to open up the NFL season, and the Jets coming off a home win against the Raiders. This game would turn out to be a tale of two halves. In the first half the Jets were clicking on all cylinders. The three headed rushing attack of Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, and Bilal Powell worked very well. Geno Smith even added to the rushing attack with a couple good scrambles, including a critical one on third down to keep the drive alive. Smith accounted for 103 passing yards in the 1st half, and looked sharp to start.

The defensive front 7 for the Jets was fierce to start the game. Both Quinton Coples and Demario Davis registered sacks on Aaron Rodgers. Rex Ryan did a great job of keeping Rodgers off balance and he couldn’t really get in his usual lights out rhythm we are accustomed too. The Jets nullified the Packers run game by holding them to 41 1st half rushing yards.

The secondary did a good job as well of staying tight to Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, except for a highlight catch made on Antonio Allen by Nelson. They really looked solid at that level having Dee Milliner back in the game.

The Jets were up 21-9, which was impressive halting any scoring chance by the Packers to just a FG. The turning point however was during the two minute drill leading into halftime. Smith threw a duck in the air, which was then picked and downed in the end-zone. The defensive pressure from the Packers hit Smith and forced a terrible throw. The Packers then marched down the length of the field to score with :08 seconds left to bring the score to 21-16. They must have been notified that Aaron Rodgers is 12-0 when following a loss the previous week. The score made 13 unanswered points leading to the break for Green Bay.

They just could not keep the chains moving, and the Packers defense settled in. After an Rodgers TD pass to Cobb, they would go for the 2 pt conversion and succeed. Muhammad Wilkerson would then be ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct, for his involvement in a brawl in the end-zone. The score made it 24-21 Packers. The Jets would respond with their only score of the 2nd half, a FG to tie the contest at 24-24.

The very next drive would be the games last score, as Rodgers threw an 80 yard TD bomb to Nelson. Milliner was beat badly on a double move for the score. With the Jets offense staggering afterwards, they were not able to answer back and eventually lost the game 31-24. This was a devastating loss as the Jets looked like they would blow the Packers out. But due to inconsistency on offense and the Packers cracking the Jets defense, the Jets would fall to 1-1. They host the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football September 22nd. They will hope to get the bad taste out of their mouth with a win on prime time.
