J.T. BARRETT FACES SUSPENSION AFTER OVI CHARGES

October 31, 2015, New York City  Ohio State Quarterback J.T. Barrett is facing a one-game suspension after getting arrested for driving impaired. On Saturday morning, the athlete was charged with a misdemeanor offense of OVI after police witnessed his attempt to dodge the OVI checkpoint. The twenty-year-old was just north of Campus, according to ElevenWarriors.com. Barrett, who is said to have cooperated with the authorities, failed his Breathalyzer test and was released to a teammate. A statement from OSU says Barrett is suspended from next week’s top-ranked game against Minnesota on Nov. 7. He will be eligible to return to his team (Buckeyes) for games starting Nov. 14. Ohio State’s athletic department has a student-athlete drug and alcohol program, which would give Barrett a two-week suspension from playing since he is under 21 years old. However, the university’s athletic director says because the quarterback was charged with a misdemeanor, he is not required to participate in the program. If Barrett is smart, he will avoid a bottle before or during driving so he won’t have to dodge a checkpoint in the future.
