The Mets and Cardinals were back in action Wednesday night for game 3 of their series. Jon Niese was on the mound for the Mets facing Michael Wacha of the Cards.

The Cardinals would jump out to an early 1-0 lead on a Yadier Molina RBI double to right in the top of the 1st. Matt Carpenter would come in to score.

Michael Wacha was fantastic early on, striking out 9 through the first 3 innings while walking 2 and surrendering a base hit.

Things would start to unravel a little bit for Wacha in the bottom of the 4th. Daniel Murphy leads off the inning with a single to left. Chris Young then grounds into a fielder’s choice to shortstop, Murphy out at second. Wacha then walks Lucas Duda, runners on first and second. Up next is Travis d’Arnaud, he singles to right to load the bases up. Wacha then proceeds to walk Ruben Tejada, forcing in a run. Game tied 1-1. Wacha then strikes out Jon Niese looking to get the second out. However Wacha doesn’t have the situation under control quite yet as he walks Kirk Nieuwenhuis, forcing in another run. Mets lead 2-1.

Bottom of the 6th, Seth Maness on in relief for the cardinals. The Mets add on another run when Lucas Duda leads off with a 431 foot bomb to right center field putting the Mets ahead 3-1.

After surrendering the run in the top of the 1st, Jon Niese settled down very nicely. He would finish the day with 6 and 2/3 strong innings without giving up another run.

Top of the 9th, Kyle Farnsworth on to attempt to close it out for the Mets and pick up the save. He strikes out Shane Robinson swinging to record the first out. Jon Jay is up next, he singles to left center field. Matt Carpenter follows that up with a single of his own to left. No matter who the Mets put in their closer role they never make it easy, I knew it was only a matter of time until Farnsworth started to implode. Daniel Descalso is on to pinch hit for Mark Ellis, he doubles to deep left center, Jon Jay comes in to score, Matt Carpenter is thrown out at the plate to preserve the lead. I’m starting to distrust Kyle Farnsworth just like my Yankee fan friends said I would. Thankfully Farnsworth holds on to preserve the win, getting Matt Holliday to fly out to right field.

Mets win 3-2. Jon Niese with the win, Wacha with the loss.

Mets improve to 11-10. Game 4 of this series is Thursday night at 7:10 pm. Bartolo Colon vs. Lance Lynn.
