Jenrry Mejia was on the mound Monday night looking to start the season 3-0 as the Mets began a 4 game series at home against the St. Louis Cardinals. Pitching for St. Louis was Tyler Lyons.

Mejia continued his impressive start to the season, retiring 14 of the first 17 batters he faced.

Bottom of the 3rd, Mets get on the board first with a 2-out RBI single to left by David Wright that scored Eric Young Jr. to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead.

The way Jenrry Mejia was pitching they wouldn’t need much more than that.

Bottom of the 6th, the Mets added another run on a Travis d’Arnaud RBI single to center field that scored Daniel Murphy. 2-0 Mets.

Mejia would finish with an impressive 6 and 2/3 innings pitched, 4 hits, 7 strike outs, 3 walks.

Ideally you would like to have a little bit more than a 2-run lead when handing the game over to the erratic Mets bullpen but ultimately they got the job done. Scott Rice and Carlos Torres each pitched 2/3 of an inning, holding the lead until the 9th when Kyle Farnsworth would come in and shut the door picking up his first save of the season.

Mets improve to 10-9, 4-6 at home. Mejia improves to 3-0. Game 2 of this series is Tuesday night at 7:10 PM and features what should be quite a pitching duel in Dillon Gee vs Adam Wainwright.
