EBC Shooting

Harlem NY:  Earlier this week at the famed Rucker Park in Harlem, a would-be gunman opened fire on the crowd. The gunman was upset with a call against the team he was supporting.  Five were wounded during the melee.  It is still unclear who was responsible for the shooting.

From its inception in 1980, the Entertainer’s Basketball Classic (EBC)  at Rucker Park has been a source of free family fun and entertainment for the community.  It has been a chance for those who may not be able to take an entire family to Madison Square Garden for a sporting event or concert, to have a peaceful gathering place where families can be entertained, and where top-of-the-line athletes and artists can showcase their talents.

This is a very unfortunate situation for the organizers of the event.  Just last week the Rapper NAS stopped by to speak to crowd.  I have attended events at Rucker Park and I must say that I felt safe.  As a young man I played basketball at Rucker Park.  I personally know Greg Marius, founder and CEO of the EBC.

We asked those who were in the area how they felt.  Many praised the work done by EBC group.  And they wanted me to let it be known that this is not a reflection of their neighborhood.  Hopefully this will not be the end of the EBC as we know it. We at PureSportsNY would like to thank the EBC for their dedication to the community in which they live and work.
