This afternoon was a matchup between the UCLA Bruins and the St. John’s Red Storm. Both teams are going through difficult seasons but St. John’s was able to be victorious for one night with a 66-63 win over the Bruins. With a score that close, it had to have come from a special hustle play.

Indeed it did- it involved a tip in by St. John’s Phil Greene of a D’Angelo Harrison missed 3-point attempt as the shot clock expired.

With this win, St. John’s improves to 11-16. This game was all about hustle, working hard, and scrapping on every play. The Red Storm and the Bruins were tied in the rebound category with 33 apiece. When it cames to scoring, St. John’s Harrison led all players with 22 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. He played a total game on both sides of the ball and the rest of the time made enough hustle plays to ensure a victory for Red Storm nation. Also this game was a reunion of sorts for St. John’s head coach Steve Lavin who was the head coach for UCLA for seven seasons, going to the NCAA Tournament during his first six seasons.

St. John’s next opponent is Big East Conference rival the  (11-15) DePaul Blue Demons. This game is on Monday, February 20th at 9:00PM and will be broadcasted on ESPN U.
