The New York Giants haven’t had the best luck with injuries since the start of last season and it unfortunately isn’t ending.

With three safeties already sitting out Saturday night vs the Jaguars, two more went out with injuries.  Justin Currie was injured late in the first quarter of Saturday night’s game on a Jacksonville kick return and was carted off the field with an ankle fracture that will end his season. Then camp standout Bennet Jackson left the game with 3:37 to play due to a sprained knee. No official word has been given at the moment, but the feeling isn’t a good one.

Collins (knee) had a large brace on his right leg after the game. As for Nat Berhe, who has been sidelined with a strained calf, he said he will return to practice this week.

“It’s amazing how these injuries are going,” Coughlin said. “We had safety earmarked as a problem position, and we got two guys hurt tonight.”

Another scary moment on the injury front was LB Jon Beason, who left the game with a sprained left knee. Although he was done for the night, it was a good sign that the linebacker remained on the sidelines and didn’t seem to appear to have a noticeable limp.

The veteran linebacker just can’t seem to escape the injury bug these past three years, but it seems he may have escaped a bigger injury. He is one of the main leaders on defense and was looking like the Jon Beason of old in training camp so far.

“Everyone here knows Jon is an essential part of our defense. He’s our leader. He’s the guy we look up to. Of course it affects our leadership and our style of play.”

Backup linebackers Mark Herzlich (concussion) and Tony Johnson (knee) also left the game.
