DERON WILLIAMS NAMED EASTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brooklyn, NY – The National Basketball Association announced today that Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, November 3 through Sunday, November 9. This is the fourth NBA Player of the Week honor of Williams’ career and his first as a member of the Nets. He previously earned the distinction three times as a member of the Utah Jazz, most recently for the week of November 8-14, 2010. This also marks the 39th time in franchise history a Nets player has earned Player of the Week honors and Williams becomes the 22nd different Nets player to earn the honor.

 

Williams led the Nets to a 3-1 week behind averages of 20.8 points, 7.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 37.3 minutes per game while shooting 56.9 percent from the field, 42.9 percent from three-point range and 82.6 percent from the free throw line. He led the Nets in scoring once, led or tied for the team lead in assists in all four games and led the team in minutes played in all four games.

 

The Nets’ point guard kicked off the week by recording 17 points and a game-high nine assists in a 116-85 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Nets’ home opener on November 3. Two nights later, Williams totaled 19 points and a team-high six assists in a 98-91 loss to Minnesota. On Friday, Williams posted a season-high 29 points (10-15 shooting) and a game-high six assists in a 110-99 win over the New York Knicks. He rounded out the week by registering 18 points (7-12 shooting) with a game-high seven assists in a 104-96 victory over Orlando on Sunday.

 

Williams is the first Nets player to capture the award since Joe Johnson won for the week of March 17-23, 2014.urt
