And with the ninth pick in the NFL Draft the Giants won’t be drafting Amari Cooper or Brandon Scherff. With many expecting NY to take Brandon Scherff with their 1st pick, they weren’t given the option thanks to their good friends in Washington who took him at 5. Instead they took Ereck Flowers OT Miami. Now I had Flowers going to the Giants in my mock even with Scherff on the board at 9. I just feel he is a great fit for the Giants line and is very underrated. Here’s why Giant’s fans will learn to love Flowers as a Giant:

The MAN is a TANK

BIG..

Height: 6’6”
Weight: 329 lbs.
Arm length: 34 ½”
Hands: 9 7/8”

AND POWERFUL…

Bench press: 37 reps at 225 lbs. (combine)
40-yard dash: 5.31 seconds (combine)
Vertical jump: 27” (pro day)

FLEXIBILITY

Flowers can play both tackle positions and both above average. He is likely a right tackle, but with training could develop into a left.

“I see myself anywhere on the line,” said Flowers, who noted he played some guard in practice. “I’m ready to come in anywhere on the line to make a contribution. Whatever helps the team win.”

COMPLETE LINEMAN

“If I had to rate one versus the other, I think he’s good at both,” Reese said. “I think if I had to grade one over the other, I think he’s probably a better pass blocker. He’s very productive as a pass blocker, but I think he’s a very good run blocker as well.”

“He’s nasty in the run game, but his length and his feet as a pass protector – he did that well, as well,” Ross said. “He did both really well. We expect him to be a complete tackle who will excel as a punishing run-blocker and a nifty pass-blocker.”

It may not be the sexy pick for the Giants, but real football fans will love this pick. Everyone else will just have to learn for themselves why sexy pick doesn’t always mean right pick. I give Jerry Reese and his staff credit for being smart with the teams needs going into a season in which they play a ton of teams with tremendous defensive fronts.
