Its no secret that the Yankees have been ravaged by the injury bug this year, as they have payroll in the tens of millions of dollars currently sidelined. Lets look at the latest news on these players’ progress towards returning to the pinstripes.

Joba Chamberlain- activated yesterday but did not pitch after returning from a month on the disabled list with a strained oblique. David Huff was designated for assignment to make room

Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis- both have been assigned to Trenton for this week and are expected to make their returns to the big leagues within the next week. Teixeira’s return may force Lyle Overbay into taking some at bats as the Yankees right fielder.

Francisco Cervelli- had the pins removed from his broken hand on Friday and is aiming to grip a bat and throw a ball by next week. From there it should take 2-3 weeks for Cervelli to build up his arm strength and return to the lineup

Eduardo Nunez- suffered a setback last week while rehabbing his oblique strain and has no activity planned for the immediate future

Michael Pineda- removed from a game down in Tampa, but not because of an injury to his shoulder, but rather because of a cracked nail. Pineda is still expected back around the All Star break.

Curtis Granderson-has met with the team’s hand specialist and is still on a program of no activity for four weeks at least.

Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez- both continuing their rehab and hope to join the team in the second half.
