Pittsburgh Defeats St. John’s 73-59

St. John’s was unable to rally in the second half after a strong first half in which they were only down 5. For much of the first half, St. John’s was in the lead by way of the 13 points posted by forward Moe Harkless.

The optimism of the pro St. John’s crowd was that maybe this young team might have the faith to play hard. It was the opposite – the result was a plethora of turnovers and bad shot attempts. Even with all the mistakes the game was not over but St. John’s needed some more production from Harkless and Guard D’Angelo Harrison. The former added 12 more points to increase his point total to 23 points. He also added 9 rebounds, and Harrison contributed with a double double – 12 points and 10 rebounds.

It wasn’t enough as the Pittsburgh Panthers forced even more turnovers and keyed in on spot up 3 point shooters. In addition, they used their point advantage to become even more aggressive which lead to more foul shots(19-28). Pittsburgh moves on to the Second Round to face #5 Georgetown.

St. John’s has some work that needs to be done but they just ran into a more experienced team who was able to neutralize their opponent and force one player to try to win the game for his team.
