O’s repay favor, beat Yankees with walk off homer in extras

Nate McClouth hit a walk off home run in the 10th inning to snap the Orioles six game losing streak as the Orioles defeated the Yankees 3-2 on Tuesday evening.

The increasingly heated and interesting rivalry has now produced back to back extra inning games, coming just months after these two teams battled to a winner take all game five that saw the Yankees prevail.

Miguel Gonzalez pitched a solid seven innings, allowing just two runs on a pair of Travis Hafner RBI singles, before leaving with the no decision. Phil Hughes gave the Yankees a quality start, giving up two runs in his six innings of work. Hughes was once again hurt by the long ball, as he served up two solo home runs to former Yankee Chris Dickerson. Hughes has now given up 10 home runs this year, good for sixth in the majors.

The bullpens battled again on this night, however this time embattled closer Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless ninth to eventually pick up the win. Recent call up Vidal Nuno was brought on in the 10th inning to give the Yankees some length out of the pen, but had his night cut short when McClouth went yard on the third pitch he saw.

The rubber game of this series takes place on Wednesday with Hiroki Kuroda going up against Jason Hammel.
