Monday April 6th marked the most wonderful time of the year, Opening Day Major League Baseball. Opening Day is a new page in a team’s franchise a time to forget about the past and put their focus on this season. The New York Yankees opened up the season on Monday, as they took on the Toronto Blue Jays in the Bronx. Going into the 2015 opening day the New York Yankees own a (76-37-1) opening day record. The Yankees are going to have to add another one to the loss section as they fell short on opening day by a final score of 6-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Things were looking very good for Yankees right handed pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, as his first two innings he hadn’t allowed a hit, he was mixing his pitches, and was locating it perfectly. The third inning was when things went south for Tanaka. Following a single by Kevin Pillar, and a walk by Devon Travis; Jose Reyes laid down a bunt which went to third base and Chase Headley threw the ball away which allowed both Pillar and Travis to score. Russell Martin then hit a single; which led to a two run home run by Edwin Encarnacion. This led to a 5 run third inning. Tanaka pitched 4 innings, allowed 5 runs (4 earned runs.); and finished the game with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks.

All the attention was on Alex Rodriguez. When his name was announced in the starting lineup he received all cheers. The bleature creature’s started chanting A-Rod’s name when the team was on the field even though he was in the dugout and waved his hat to the fans. When he came to the plate for the first time he received a standing ovation, and drew a walk. In his second At-bat he got his first hit of the season, and in over a year into center field.

The Yankees didn’t have a good day all around, starting pitching, and offensively. They didn’t get their first hit until the fourth inning which came off the bat of Brian McCann; a single to shallow right field. Their first run of the game didn’t come until the 6th inning when Yankee outfielder Brett Gardner hit his first home run of the season to right field. The Yankees ended up losing the game by a final score of 6-1, and finished with just 3 hits.
