BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Brooklyn Nets entered Wednesday night’s contest against the Denver Nuggets, with a 5-15 record on the season. The Nets were also on a three game losing streak, prior to playing the Nuggets. Brooklyn was in desperate need of a win, and they showed that with the way they played Wednesday.

The Nets were in control most of the game, and outplayed the Nuggets for three solid quarters. Heading into the 4th quarter, Brooklyn held a 17 point advantage. However, Denver stormed back in the 4th quarter and brought the game to as close as two points. This was incredible considering the Nets had led by as many as 29 points. Brooklyn was able to clamp down on defense, and force a critical turnover late to secure a 116-111 win. Here are two of the main takeaways from Brooklyn’s win over the Nuggets:

2) Finish the Race

  • The Nets almost let a win slip away Wednesday night at the Barclays Center. Denver outscored the Nets, 32-20 in the fourth quarter.
    • Wilson Chandler led the charge for Denver, scoring 11 fourth quarter points.
    • Brooklyn went a little over three minutes without scoring a point in the 4th quarter.
  • In the NBA, the thing that separates good teams from bad ones is the ability to seal the deal. If you let a team come back from 29 points down, that means you took your foot off the gas. Brooklyn needs to learn from this game, and make sure that when teams go down that they stay down.

1) Team Effort

  • The Nets had six players score in double figures against the Nuggets. This was a total team effort, and showed Nets fans that this team does have some hidden offensive firepower.
  • Brook Lopez led the Nets in scoring with 24 points, and also added eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks. His presence was felt all night long, and his teammates seem to feed off of his energy.
  • Brooklyn as a team shot 48% from the field, and also had 18 team assists. This shows that the Nets are capable of getting high percentage shots, it’s just on them to consistently put the ball in the hoop.
    • Brooklyn outscored Denver 58-42 on points in the paint.
  • Sean Kilpatrick had another good game, tallying 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal. It’s performances like this that excites Nets fans. Kilpatrick is gaining more and more confidence with each game.
  • Isaiah Whitehead has done a great job filling in for the injured Jeremy Lin. Whitehead does a good job of creating shot opportunities for teammates, and attacking the rim hard like he did at Seton Hall. Whitehead finished with 14 points, four steals, two rebounds, two assists and one block.
    • Whitehead has shown he is a very dynamic defender that is fearless.

The Nets next challenger will be the San Antonio Spurs, Friday night in San Antonio. Brooklyn will look to build off this win, and pick up the road upset. Four out of the Spurs’ five losses this season, have come at home in San Antonio.
