December 6, 2015, Queens, NY  The Brooklyn Nets tried but couldn’t do what any team this season has tried: Defeat the Golden State Warriors. The Nets made a game of it after being down by 17. They caught ’em, passed ’em, and then got caught, and then got passed. When the final buzzer sounded, they were on the wrong side of the 114-98 score. Stephen Curry led all scorers with 28 points which is below his league leading average. For the Warriors, it was their 26th straight regular season win dating back to the 2014-2015 season, and the win gave them 22 victories to begin the season, a North American record for major sports franchises. One more win for the Warriors and they tie the LeBron James-Dwyane Wade-Chris Bosh-led Miami Heat that won 27 consecutive games.

Golden State jumped out to an early lead and ended the first quarter up by 14, 30-16. In the second quarter, the Nets made a game of it scoring a whopping 38 points cutting the Warriors lead to 3 points, 57-54. The Nets actually took the lead in the 3rd quarter but that’s when Curry went on a mini-streak, and the Warriors ended the quarter leading 87-80. The game got out of hand in the final quarter as the Warriors outscored the Nets 27-18.

The key stat was the fast-break points. The Nets scored 11 points off the break while the Warriors scored 25. The Nets were not at full strength as Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Sergey Karasev sat due to ankle sprains. Thaddeus Young played superbly scoring 25 points to go with 14 boards. Shane Larkin contributed 13 points off the bench, and Brook Lopez scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

In addition to Curry, Golden State got the bulk of their scoring from Draymond Green and Klay Thompson who scored 22 and 21 points respectively. Andre Iguodala had only 4 points but contributed in other ways (9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals). The Warriors got scoring contribution from their bench with Festus Ezeli scoring 12 points and Leandro Barbosa adding 11 points.

The lost dropped the Nets to 5-15. They play the Houston Rockets on Tuesday. The game begins at 7:30 (EST). Tickets are still available, and the game will be aired on the YES Network. Check your local listings.
