(Bronx NY): President Obama, visited Lehman College today to announce the formation of the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, a new independent nonprofit foundation that aims to address opportunity gaps among minority boys and young men.

“That’s why we are all here today. Because we believe in the idea that no matter who you are, no matter what you look like, no matter where you came from, no matter what your circumstances were, if you work hard, if you take responsibility, then America is a place where you can make something of your lives,” President told the crowd, which included CUNY Chancellor James B. Milliken, as well as several members of Congress including two proud Lehman alumni: U.S. Representative Eliot L. Engel (’69; ’73) and José E. Serrano (’61).

Lehman College President Ricardo R. Fernández also spoke to the crowd and noted it was perfectly fitting that this new non-profit iniatiative should be launched here in the Bronx.
