Leake carries Reds past sloppy, punchless Mets

Mike Leake pitched seven shutout innings as the Mets never recovered from an early deficit before falling 4-0 to the Reds on Tuesday evening.

The Mets got off to a rough start as Jonathon Niese loaded the bases with two outs before a Todd Frazier ground ball went through the legs of third baseman David Wright, allowing two runs to score. Niese walked in a third run two batters later.

Leake was the story for the Reds as he three hits over seven innings while striking out four Mets. The bullpen was solid again in securing the victory for the Reds. Devin Mesoraco added a solo home run in the ninth to pad the lead for Cincinnati.

On Wednesday the Mets will look to avoid the sweep in a 1 o’clock game featuring a pair of young aces. Matt Harvey will look to improve on his torrid start against the Reds’ Mat Latos.
