Knicks Embarrased In the Garden, 97-81

NEW YORK CITY – The New York Knicks have become the laughing stock of the league, and it is far from the high expectations that were set when Carmelo Anthony re-signed in the offseason. No one would have thought that going into Friday night’s game, the Knicks would be sitting with a 5-29 record, and the franchise’s worst start. The Detroit Pistons took their turn at beating up on the short handed Knicks. New York had to play without Samuel Dalembert, Carmelo Anthony, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Iman Shumpert. Detroit was able to take advantage of a depleted Knick roster and pick up a 97-81 victory. The Pistons were leading by as many as 30 points which brought booing from the Garden.

Brandon Jennings took advantage of the Knicks poor perimeter and interior defense all night. Jennings finished with 29 points and led all scorers. Greg Monroe had a double double (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Andre Drummond was a monster on the boards all night (20 rebounds, 7 points). The Pistons shot 50% (38-76) from the field , and 57% (8-14) from downtown. Detroit also had 46 points in the paint as a team.

JR Smith led Knick scorers with 22 points. He made the score somewhat respectable with a string of deep three pointers late in the game. Cole Aldrich (11 points, 14 rebounds) was the only other Knick in double figures.

The Knicks have now fallen to 5-30 on the year, and the 2014-15 season can’t end fast enough. New York has no answer for teams defensively and have shown their inability to win games running the triangle. Thier next game will be Sunday night against the Milwaukee Bucks (17-17).
