Jason Pierre-Paul is never quiet when the season is around the corner, but on the field the past 2 years he’s been the complete opposite. This year the Giants will need him more than ever with newly departed Justin Tuck going to Oakland. Now New York is hoping that number 90 can get back to his old 2011 form. That season he had 16.5 sacks and made the Pro Bowl.

When asked if Pierre-Paul was feeling like his old self again he responded by saying,”Yeah, I’m back now, so the only thing that can stop me from being me is me… from being a better player. I went out there with my teammates, running. I’m happy so I’m good.” He continued,”I’m trying to be better than (2011). Each year is a year for you to get better, so that’s what I’m trying to do.”

I don’t think the Giant’s are even looking for better at this point. I mean if he plays just as good as 2011 the G-men will be in good hands. With that being said, he is already looking strong this preseason and in camp. But everybody knows that it is only training camp and the preseason.

“Don’t get me wrong, you have something to play for but you really don’t, you know,” he said. “Guys are not trying to get hurt but the last thing when you’re on that football field, you don’t think about that. You just play the game. It’s all preseason. I know, guys, it matters or whatever. Really is doesn’t. I know for a fact when it’s time to buckle down and get ready to play Detroit on Monday night, we’re going to be ready to go.”

A lot of the optimism surrounding Pierre-Paul is simply that he is healthy going into the season.

When asked if the fun is back JPP said, “Yeah, fun has always been in football for me. It never left. Being injured, nobody wants to be injured. It comes with the game; you never know when you’re going to be injured. You have to fight through it. You go out there and play. If you can’t, you can’t.”

Football is definitely fun when you’re healthy enough to play, but even more fun when you are winning games. Fact is Jason Pierre-Paul will be a huge part of whether the Giants win games so even though training camp may not seem that important to JPP, eyes will be on him hoping it translates to the regular season.

The Giants start their season September 8th on Monday Night football. Which JPP will be present we will soon find out.
