Isles to face the Devils in the first NHL game at Barclays Center tomorrow

Saturday, September 21st will mark the first official National Hockey League game in Brooklyn (albeit it’s still preseason). The New York Islanders will host the New Jersey Devils in their soon to be ‘new home’. The Isles will call Barclays Center home starting in the 2015-2016 season.

The game will not be televised, but its been reported that over 11,000 tickets have already been sold. The Isles practiced at Barclays Center Thursday of last week, and when Isles owner, Charles Wang, was asked about the arena, he replied, “One word for it: beautiful. When you look at what is going on here, it’s unbelievable. I am very happy as you can see from the smile.”

It will be interesting to see how the Brooklyn crowd will welcome the Isles, considering they have never had a NHL team of their own. Hopefully, they will support the Isles just as well as they supported the Nets in their inaugural season in Brooklyn. The Isles also made the official announcement that superstar center, John Tavares will be their new captain.
