The New York Giants are in the midst of an identity crisis. The Gmen know they are a strong defensive team and have a talented secondary however, they just don’t seem to know who they are on the offensive side of the ball. The team has struggled all offseason and during Monday night’s game scoring on offense. All of a sudden the team who is used to throwing the ball and having its decent share of running attack doesn’t know what they are best at. Are they good at any? That’s the question many are asking right now after their last game vs Detroit.

The Giants seemed to have a good run game in the preseason, but Giants players and coaches are saying the problem with the new system is that they don’t know what they can “hang their hat on” as Tom Coughlin put it. Is it the run game or the passing game? What is it on offense that they excel at the best?

Eli Manning also believes the team has to find their strong points, but for now “not throw more on our plate than we can eat and just go out there, make sure what we’re doing we can do efficiently and do soundly to be able to make plays.”

It’s been a while for the Giants since they’ve adjusted to a new offense as Kevin Gilbride has been with the team for years and has helped them win two Super Bowl s calling the offensive plays. Now it has been rough for the team trying to learn a whole different style of offense and deciding what its strength is.

“It hasn’t been that way for a few years because we have had the same system,” said Tom Coughlin. “We know exactly what we want and where we want it. I think that we do know exactly what we want, we are just not there yet.”

The Giants will be playing a tough team this week in the Arizona Cardinals(1-0), but coach Coughlin did say how important it is being in front of the home fans and hoping that will help the team get back on track.

“It’s very important to get that feeling when we come into the stadium that the support is there and it’s loud, and it will be there and be consistent. That is always a great feeling for a coach and a player to come into the stadium, be welcomed, and to know that your fans are there and they are behind your team and they believe in what you are doing.”

Coughlin should expect the fans on opening day, but everyone wants to see the same thing as coach come sunday…

“Touchdowns, I would like. I like to have those.”
