The Mets used an excellent start from Dillon Gee and three solo home runs to beat the Cardinals 5-1 Wednesday night at Citi Field.

Gee allowed just one run in six and two thirds innings while striking out seven Cardinals. Gee admitted that he had been experiencing some elbow tendinitis recently, but because of two rainouts last week against Washington, he was able to get enough rest to make this start.

The Mets roughed up the Cardinal’s young stud Shelby Miller to the tune of four runs in six innings, the most runs Miller has given up in his young career. They jumped out early to a 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to RBI singles by Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda.

Solo home runs from Duda, David Wright, and Marlon Byrd padded the Mets lead. The Cardinals only run was scored on a homer by Allen Craig in the sixth. Scott Rice, Brandon Lyon, and Bobby Parnell pitched the last two and a third innings to finish off the victory for the Mets.

Thursday’s matinee is at 1 pm and featured one of the better pitching matchups of the season, as Matt Harvey will face off against Cardinal’s ace, Adam Wainwright.
