Zack Wheeler was looking for his first win of the season on Monday night as The Mets kicked off their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Josh Collmenter on the mound for the D-Backs.

Bottom of the 1st, Gerardo Parra leads off by lining out to center. Aaron Hill pops out to shortstop. Paul Goldschmidt is up next, he singles to deep right. Miguel Montero follows that up with a double to deep right, Goldschmidt comes around to score all the way from first. D-Backs take an early lead 1-0.

Top of the 2nd, the Mets would get that run right back. Lucas Duda leads off with a single to center field. Juan Lagares follows that up with a double to deep right field, Lucas Duda goes first to third. Travis d’Arnaud is up next, he lines out to third, runners stay put. Ruben Tejada then grounds out to shortstop, Duda scores, Lagares to third. Game tied at 1

Top of the 3rd, Eric Young Jr. leads off the inning with a ground ball to shortstop Micah Owings. Owings botches the throw to first, Eric Young Jr. advances to second base on the throwing error. Daniel Murphy is up next, he doubles to deep center field, Eric Young Jr. to third as he had to wait for the ball to drop to advance. David Wright then grounds out to third, Young Jr. comes in to score on the play. Mets lead 2-1. Curtis Granderson is up next, he strikes out swinging. Then Lucas Duda adds another run on. He singles to right, Murphy comes in to score, Duda advances to second on the throw. Mets up 3-1.

Wheeler strikes out the pitcher Collmenter swinging to kick off the bottom half of the 3rd. Gerardo Parra then draws a walk. Aaron Hill singles to left, Parra to second. Wheeler then walks Paul Goldschmidt to load the bases up. Wheeler’s in trouble. Miguel Montero hits a sac-fly to center, Parra scores, but Aaron Hill gets thrown out at third. Mets get out of the inning with the lead in tact, 3-2.

Top of the 5th, Mike Boisinger is on in relief for Collmenter. He strikes out Eric Young Jr. looking. Murphy then singles to left. David Wright draws a walk, Murphy to second. Curtis Granderson is up next, he singles to left, Murphy comes in to score from second, Wright to second. Mets lead 4-2. Lucas Duda keeps the rally going, RBI single to right, Wright scores, Granderson to second. Mets up 5-2.

The Mets weren’t done scoring yet. Top of the 8th, Ryan Rowland-Smith on in relief for Boisinger. Aaron Recker, who came into the game as part of a double switch in the bottom of the 7th, draws a walk to lead off the inning. Eric Young Jr. lays down a sacrifice, Rowand-Smith throws the ball away, Recker ends up on third,, Young Jr. on second. Daniel Murphy then smacks a sac-fly to center, Recker scores, Young Jr. to third. Mets lead 6-2. David Wright would follow up with an RBI single to right field, driving in Young Jr. Mets take a 7-2 lead.

Arizona would add another run in the bottom of the 8th on a Miguel Montero RBI single but that would not be enough as the Mets would hold on to win by a final score of 7-3.

Mets improve to 6-7. Game 2 of the series between the Mets and D-Backs will take place Tuesday night. Jenrry Mejia vs. Bronson Arroyo, first pitch is at 9:40 PM ET.
