Connecticut ran away with a victory over #16 De Paul to kickoff the 2012 Big East Tournament. The leading scorer in the game was Jeremy Lamb of Connecticut who finished with 25 points. He was 10-17 from the field, 3-6 from beyond the arc. In the first nine minutes during the first half, the game was close as both teams traded baskets.
With Connecticut leading 19-15, they increased their lead to 22-15 off Shabazz Napier’s three point shot. From that point on, Connecticut just kept attacking and defending the De Paul three point attack. Their defense led De Paul into shooting 1-6 from three to end the first half.
Going into the second half, Connecticut led by 13. You can sense that De Paul was not going down without a fight. Throughout the final half, De Paul showed flashes but it wasn’t enough. In the end, Connecticut persevered 81-67.
The UConn Huskies move on to the Second Round with a matchup against #8 West Virginia. That game will be broadcast on ESPN at 12 noon.
