Changing Of The Guard

NY Knicks: After four seasons as Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni resigned from his position today.  A struggling team in need of a new voice, D’Antoni showed the ultimate class by walking away. Although he was being abused in the media, no one expected him to walk away. Now it’s up to the players to step up and do what they are paid to do – and that’s win basketball games.

Carmelo Anthony is the leader of this and now he has the stage to make or break this season.  Melo has taken a beating in the press lately, many were calling him a selfish player and the Knicks should look to trade him. Now it’s up to Melo and the rest of the players to step up or as some would say “Man Up!”  No more excuses – it’s time to turn this season around and make a push for the playoff.

The Knicks have hired Mike Woodson as interim coach for the rest of the season. Woodson, former head coach of the Atlanta Hawks and former Knickerbocker, has the challenge of turning this season around. He was hired by Mike D’Antoni during the off season to shore up the Knicks defense.  Hopefully he will make each player accountable for their actions, on and off the court.

The Knicks are tied with the Bucks for the eighth playoff position in the Eastern Division.  Milwaukee holds the tie breaker with two wins over the Knicks. Now comes the big challenge of making the playoff, finding a way to win those games that will make others repect the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back.
