March 2nd 2017

With 4:17 left in the first half of the Nets match-up with the Sacramento Kings last night it happened. Brook Lopez off a nice feed from Jeremy Lin dunked the basketball giving him 11-points for the night but more importantly for him he surpassed the 10,000th career point mark as a professional basketball player.

Being around Brook you would know that he’s not one to boast about individual accomplishments. (Unless it has to do with comics, maybe.) Reaching 10,000 points for his career is something I’m sure he appreciates however from a team perspective the Brooklyn Nets finally ended a 16-game losing streak and Brook’s contributions were a major factor in getting the win.

Brook finished with 24-points and 8 rebounds to lead the team to this well needed victory. Reaching this milestone is just a testament to how professional Lopez has been throughout this rough season and throughout his career.

Trade rumors every season, new teammates and seemingly yearly coaching changes can be enough for anyone to loose focus however Brook should be applauded for his continued positive attitude and work ethic.

He has gotten over some of his early injury problems in his career and has become a very solid player for the Nets. He is now the second Nets player to reach this milestone.

In this his 8th professional season, all for the Nets, Lopez once again finds himself putting up solid numbers and now relishing a leadership role for some of the younger players on the team.He has improved every year since he was drafted in 2008 by the then New Jersey Nets, he has even added range to his shot as he now will step behind the arc.

With the win last night the Nets improve to 10-49, the losing streak is over and the Nets need to take this win and the rest of the season to evaluate players and schemes as they move forward and try to build a winning culture.

Lopez has one year remaining on his current contract after which he will become an unrestricted free agent in 2018. The future is unknown at this point but presently Brook shows what it means to be a true professional in the locker room and on the basketball court.

Kudos Brookiethewookie11!
