A New Voice

NYKnicks: It appears that former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson has found the answer.  After replacing Mike D’Antoni, the Knicks have won eight games and lost only one under Woodson.  After six seasons as head coach for the Hawks, Woodson was hired by the Knicks as a defensive coach.  Although his philosophy was somewhat suspect in the D’Antoni system, things have changed.

Now the team is playing the best defense of the season.  Some are saying the Knicks quit on Mike D’Antoni, and now they feel compelled to prove to everyone that it was the system that held them back.  Woodson, a former Knickerbocker, has made it clear to players that everyone will be held accountable for their performance on the floor.  It certainly seems that all of the players have bought in to the Woodson system.  There seems to be more camaraderie among the players looking to help each other rather than point the finger at the other guy.

With sixteen games left in the regular season, the Knicks are trailing the Atlantic East-leading Philadelphia Seventy Sixers by two games.  If the Knicks finish the season winning 12 of their remaining games, they can claim the Atlantic East title by beating out the Sixers.

I’m sure the Knicks ownership will at least think about giving Mike Woodson a full season with the team to see if he can turn this team into a championship contender over the next couple of seasons.
