A Much Needed Win

NY Knicks: The Knicks are back at Madison Square Garden after a terrible road trip.  Losers of the last seven out of eight games, at the last home game the fans were chanting “Fire D’ Antono!”  Things started out well against the Charlotte Bobcats , the ball was moving and the Knicks were knocking down their open shots. Landry Fields had a season-high 18 points and 5 assists.  The Knicks would win in a laugher:  111 to 78.

Then it was off to Cleveland to face the young Cavaliers, and rookie standout Tyre Ervin. The Knicks were looking for back to back wins but the Cavaliers had other ideas. It was a tight game throughout the first half.  The Knicks could not sustain the same effort in the second half of the game.  As veteran Antwan Jamison connected on key buckets down the stretch, another loss for the Knicks – five out of the last six games.

Tonight they host the Detroit Pistons – one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference with a record of 4-18.  The Pistons are without local Mount Vernon standout Ben Gordon, out with a sore right shoulder…which is a welcoming sight for the Knicks who are desperately in need of a win.  Landry Fields seemed to have found his game.  In the last four games he has been the spark for the Knicks, their leading scorer in the first half of tonight’s game with 16 points.

Still not dominating the game from Amar’e Stoudemire, who played 18 minutes in the first half scoring only 7 points.   The remaining question  is whether Amar’e is playing hurt and just doesnt want to reveal any signs of weakness.  Only time will tell if that’s the case or not.  His offense wasn’t  needed in tonight’s game as the Knicks put this one away early – leading by 26 points at the end of the third quarter.

A easy night for the Knicks as they dominated the lifeless Pistons.  I’m sure Knicks fans are hoping for the same on Thursday night as the face Derrick Rose and Eastern Conference leading Chicago Bulls.

The final score: 113-86 over the Pistons.
