A King’s Day

NY Knicks:  The Knicks host the Orlando Magic at the Garden as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King.  The last time out for the Knicks in Oklahoma City was quite embarrassing.  At one point they were down by forty points and showed no interest in fighting back, losing by 20 points.  Today they face Dwight Howard – aka Superman –  one of the most dominant centers in the league.

Carmelo Anthony is back in the starting line-up after missing the last game with a sprained right ankle. The Knicks got out to an early lead 8-0 run in the first quarter. Finally the Magic got things going as former Duke Blue Devil JJ Redick knocked down back-to-back three-pointers.   But the Knicks would maintain the lead, taking a 51 to 45 advantage at the half.

At the beginning of the 3rd quarter tension among the players began to surface.  Dwight Howard and Jared Jefferies began to exchange love taps. As the momentum shifted to the Magic, Ryan Anderson and JJ Redick caught fire from downtown.  Making four consecutive three-pointers in the quarter, the Magic would combine for 13 three-pointers in the first three quarters.

Amar’e Stoudemire re-entered the game at the beginning of the fourth.   It was not a good game for Stoudemire, as he was in foul trouble throughout.  The Knicks could not figure out how to defend the three-point line.  The Magic were feasting from behind the line, totaling 17  three-pointers in the game – the most ever against a Knicks team.  It was that lack of defense that caused the Knicks to lose at home, 102 to 93 in the final.
